CLUB OF JACKS – RAW E.P.

JUNO REVIEW: Club of Jacks have been previously spotted on labels like Plastik People and Blockhead, which should give you an idea of where their sound is pitched. This is classic house with a distinctive UK slant – the beats are up front and the bass is mighty strong. The subs on “Alright” just can’t be beaten, not least when peppered with other sound system garnishes that keep things ruff and tuff. “Raw Like 94” makes great use of a Lisa Stansfield sample for lyrical input, but once again the emphasis is on the weighty production. It’s a sound that carries through the B side too, providing you with four highly workable jams for the peak of the night.

Club of Jacks are back on their own imprint with the bass heavy, jazzy groove of ‘Make Moves’.

Combining raw bumpy 2-step and 4/4 beats, speaker shaking analogue sub bass, deep Rhodes keys, R&B vocal chops and a trumpet sample from a jazz great, this is ‘another one of those’ for lovers of the classic US/UK Garage House sound.

JUNO REVIEW:
Since debuting on their eponymous label last summer, Club of Jacks has delivered a range of tunes indebted to classic American house, and both U.S and UK variants of garage. Here they join Mike Millrain’s Soul Revolution, dropping two cuts of revivalist goodness. “Hard To Let You Go” is a sweet and woozy, soul-flecked groover, with vintage vocal samples and fluid riffs riding a late ’90s US garage-meets-speed garage groove. “When I Need You” moves further towards classic UK garage, with the duo underpinning jazzy organ keys and vocal samples with a throbbing bassline and skipping, New Jersey beats.
